Ovation 1615| Ovation 12 string guitar

This beautiful Ovation 1615 was made in 1975 (per ovation guitar’s website). The Ovation 16 12 string guitar has a neck that is suitable for those that dislike thin neck guitars. This particular model has a wide neck that minimizes problems that often arise with thin neck guitars. The Ovation 1615 acoustic electric 12 string guitar has a “chimney” like sound. This ovation guitar is built like a tank, able to withstand that test of time; it is definitely a work guitar. All you have to do is String it up, tune it up, and forget about it, you’re set!

Ovation 1615 | Over the Years.

Over the years, I’ve managed to play several different guitars but this one works great in comparison! The peizo-pickups will create a more full effect in the sound when used with a direct box, I used a passive and it worked like a champ with some minor fiddling; keep in mind it was not very resonating. The acoustic sound was not at all loud or overwhelming, but one could always tune it regularly and have a brace towards the top of the neck. You should know that this ovation 1615 12 string acoustic guitar would not be used to its potential if it were unplugged. Plug it in; it sounds the best this way!

No problems have arisen with this model and every glued join and brace is still in perfect condition. This goes to show you the durability of this guitar is supernatural! This is by far one of the greatest tank-like models of ovation guitars. Rosette on the guitar is still in very good condition and the shape of it is still intact. The X-brace is very solid still and that is a major plus! It is amazing to think that the ovation 1615 acoustic electric 12 string guitar is as old as it is! The finish is still beautiful after all the years. This is a guitar that will never let you down; even the batteries seem to last forever in this thing for some reason. It’s as if Ovation Guitars decided they would not only make a great sounding guitar made to last but one that efficient too! The finish has never been scratched and therefore has kept its polish over the years as well. It only has a volume control (this is expected for the year of the acoustic electric model of the 70’s); trying on an amp is an option. The mahogany neck, with its sunburst/pearl inlay finish on the bridge and around the sound hole, alone, makes this beauty priceless!

Ovation 1615 | Overall Sound Quality

The overall sound of the guitar is what initially grasped my attention. In no way was I prepared for what came out of this ovation 1615 acoustic electric 12 string guitar! I was simply going to play around with it for a few minutes and was completely amazed by the quality and the depth of the sound; it blew me away! The sound was not only bright and rich, but it was all around amazing! I’ve heard numerous ovation acoustic electric guitars but this one takes the prize! I was very surprised. Not only did the Ovation 1615 acoustic electric 12 string guitar look great, it sounded Awesome!

Getting/Buying your first guitar is an exciting time. No instrument can compare to the awesomeness of a guitar. You’ll be the coolest of cool when you can play one. And let’s not forget, chicks love ‘em! And for the ladies out there, guys dig em’ too!

As you set out on ” buying first guitar “, you will need to make a budget so that you know how much you can afford to spend. Without a budget, your searching will be a waste because, of course, you will be attracted to all of the expensive models. You’re just starting out and will not need those. Instead, you should aim to spend $500 or less. You can definitely get a decent guitar for this price, especially if you look online for a deal.

It will be relatively easy for you to learn how to play the guitar and make beautiful music. Playing the guitar is nowhere near as difficult as people tend to think. However, before you spend any money, you should do a bit of research to ensure you get the best bang for your buck.

The internet is surely the best place to buy a guitar because deals are everywhere. Still, before you purchase a guitar online, you will want to visit a store to test out the guitar. You want to see how it feels, plays, and sounds. This way will ensure you have a guitar that you are comfortable and happy with. Many people are drawn to the cool factor of electric guitars but you should also consider acoustic guitars.

If you’re still having difficulty selecting a guitar, then you may want to go with some tried and true brands like Ovation Guitars. If you’re looking for an electric guitar, some popular makers are Fender, Ibanez, and Gibson.

After you find the guitar that you want, search online for a good deal. Many online retailers will have specials on beginner guitar kits. You’ll never forget having purchased your first guitar.

So, remember, if you are looking at buying your first guitar, make it an Ovation guitar!

Here is a quick video on how beautiful they sound!

If you enjoy country music then you probably would like to play some of your own. If so, then you will need an ovation acoustic guitar. You can play any genre from bluegrass to jazz on an ovation acoustic guitar without need for an amplifier.

The best sound comes from quality woods like maple, mahogany, and spruce because they provide lots of resonance. The inside bracing of your guitar will determine the tone. The bracing in your guitar will vary depending on who makes it.

If you want to test the tone of your guitar, then light a match before the sound hole, and then tap the guitar top. This should make the match go out. If so, you’ve likely found a well-made guitar with a nice tone. If you get an Ovation Acoustic Guitar, then you won’t have to worry about quality. These guitars come in many styles to satisfy any need.

1. Flat Top: Probably the most common version of guitar, its back is flat. The tone you get will depend on how it was made.

2. Classical: Classical guitars have similar features to flat tops. Their finger boards are wider to accommodate nylon strings.

3. Bass: These are similar to the flat top guitars; however, they produce a deeper sound.

4. Archtop: These guitars are curved with rounded backs. The curved top raises the amplitude in sound by eliminating standing waves within a guitar. This boosts the volume of sound from ovation guitars.

You will be able to find ovation guitars in many size, shapes, tunings and strings. You will be able to find 6 to 12 string guitars, smaller guitars suitable for kids, and value beginner packages with all of the accessories you need. You can choose from a variety of brands but we recommend Ovation.

Purchasing ovation guitars is no easy task. When buying second hand, it can seem overwhelming. If you don’t purchase a good instrument that you enjoy using, it will be very hard for you to become a master guitar player. You will want to critically review your choices before buying anything.

Be sure to check with multiple guitar dealers and music stores to see if any are planning sales. Join different mailing lists so you can be contacted about any upcoming sales.

The classified are an ideal place to search for a second-hand guitar. You will also want to look on college bulletins and in college newspapers. Looking online will present even more opportunities for the perfect guitar. There are a few guidelines you should follow when buying a second-hand guitar:

1. Pay Attention to the Brand – It doesn’t matter if you buy new or used, it’s important to pay attention the manufacturer of your guitar. Get one from a reputable maker like Ovation Guitars. This way you know that your guitar is top quality, even if you are not the first owner. Check out one of the many Ovation guitar reviews online or from other players before you start your search, this way you’ll know what to look for. Ovation Guitars provides great customer service and responds queries and service needs quickly and personably.

2. Scrutinize Used Guitars– You should be critical of any guitar you buy, but especially a used guitar. Don’t buy the first thing that looks good without carefully looking at it. Check out the guitar for defects like cracks. Flaws can help negotiate the price down on a used guitar. Or, they can warn you that the guitar is not a good investment.

Stick to these guidelines and you will be able to find a good guitar that you can learn to play like a pro in no time at all.

New Bracing and a Lighter Back

The material used to construct the back of the Ovation LX is much lighter than before. Tiny microspheres, glass bubbles, make this possible. The Lyrachord is just as strong as its predecessors and weighs so much less. Though the guitar back is machine-molded, hand craftsmanship is applied during shaping and finishing of the neck. The bowl is of a perfect designed to accommodate the neck. An incredibly accurate machine attaches the neck to the body.

The Ovation LX has a solid spruce soundboard with a laser carved X pattern. The vibration of points to be carved is plotted into the machine along with negative areas. It is amazing that the bracing is so exactly radiused to create a slight arch on the guitar top. As the wood expands in humid conditions, the guitar expands out. This stops concave areas from forming and warping the guitar’s shape.

The wood epaulettes around the sound holes of the Ovation LX. This is inlaid on top providing a plush feeling. A birch back gives support to the area around the sound holes.

Neck Development

The Kaman bar is a revolutionary item in neck technology. The guitar neck is stable and consistent but not heavy. With a lighter body, the Ovation LX necessitates a neck that is lighter. Ovation liked the Kaman bar’s stability. Its replacement is a jointed neck system that combines bolt-on strength and set neck precision. A precision-fit joint at the neck is held in place by bolts that extend to the Lyrachord area on the bowl and into an aluminum block on the heel.

The LX truss rod is made from a steel rod threaded on either side into tiny blocks welded into a parallel rod. The end result is a very mobile rod that adjusts the bow of the neck and pulls the head back. This eliminates loose truss rod problems.

Ovation LX fretboards do not touch the soundboards; this prevents warping that is common with a glued on fingerboard. The design makes replacement simple as integrity of the neck is preserved. This technology is an innovation among acoustic guitars.

• Jigsaw

• Drill with round attachment

• Router

• Wood glue

• Premade neck and bridge set

Making the Body

Step 1

When selecting wood to build your guitar, you should choose a durable lightweight wood that is about ¼” thick. Cedar and spruce are popular choices among guitar manufacturers. You need 3 sheets of wood measuring 36×24 inches.

Step 2

Your first step will be to create the front and back of the guitar body. Trace the shape of each side onto a sheet of wood.

Use your jigsaw to cut out each side. These will need to be equal in every way. Clamping the sheets together and cutting simultaneously will ensure this. You will have to cut a sound hole in the center of your front panel. Larger holes mean your instrument will have more treble, smaller holes mean more bass. You should use a round drill attachment for this.

Step 3

When constructing the sides you need 2 pieces of wood 5 inches wide that are capable of wrapping halfway around the body of your guitar. Soak each piece in boiling water for about fifteen seconds, or until pliable. Next, shape it to the body of your guitar. You might have to repeat this a few times to get it perfect. Move quickly but remain patient while you work.

Step 4

Attach each side using a block of wood and some wood glue. Glue the blocks to the top and bottom of the sides. It is not important how this looks, but it is best that it fits with your guitar’s dimensions. Clamp each side to the blocks and let dry.

Step 5

After the glue has dried, brace the front and inside of your guitar. You should research different bracing configurations as placement affects sound quality.

Step 6

Line the sides of your instrument so you will have places to add glue when assembling the homespun ovation acoustic guitar. Add notches to a thin piece of wood. Then glue this to the sides of your guitar at the top and bottom, allow it to dry.

Step 7

Connect the top and bottom using wood glue. Let this dry and sand the guitar’s surface. Your guitar body is now complete.

Now, I’m not saying you’ll get the exact same quality of sound but boy oh boy, you just built an ovation guitar replica (or at least a wannabe)!!! Ok so maybe an Ovation but you just freakin’ build a guitar dude! Check out some youtube videos online

Q: I’m would like to buy a second-hand Ovation 12 string guitar. I have found a seller of an Ovation 1615 from the 70s. Have you got any advice on purchasing this type of guitar? Will I have problems with the electronics because it is so old?

A: 12 string guitars experience more bodily stress than standard guitars because of the tension created by their additional strings. The ovation 12 string guitar typically splits down the seams of its top plates. You should check out this section, along with the condition of neck, very carefully. This guitar will probably have an older pickup but you should still check to see if it works. If that works, then you will probably be satisfied with the guitar. If you are going to play on stage, then you should use a microphone along with the pickup to get better sound.

Many Americans favor the Ovation 12 string guitar for its rich and dry sound that doesn’t conceal your melodies and chord changes in excess reverberation. Other guitar brands usually sound muddy. You should definitely check out the guitar in person before you buy it. This way you can check that everything works correctly and there is no bodily damage. If you are satisfied, then you should definitely buy it.
